Most people don’t fully understand the benefits of aerating your lawn. Routine aeration is one of the best ways to make your lawn thick and green. More often, lawn aeration is referred to as “core aeration” because it involves the act of removing many small 2.5” to 3” plugs of turf, thatch, and soil from your lawn. By doing so, this will effectively increase the water, oxygen, and nutrient saturation to the turfgrass rootzone by relieving compaction and excessive thatch. Aerating is most effective when plants are active and the soil is moist enough to allow for deep penetration from our aerator, for our warm season turf grass in Florida, this is typically accomplished in the spring, although for severely compacted or heavily thatched lawns, anytime during the active growth season is effective.
